Do Everything Like a Pirate

Today was the day when every good Pastafarian (and other pirate loving people) talks like a pirate.  I, however, am a non-practicing Pastafarian, so I don’t generally observe these religious holidays (there was a pub crawl at Uni to celebrate, but I had to work instead).

But that should stop you getting in on the act! Even Flickr celebrated the day:

So, I’ve been wondering – when are all the atheist holidays and festivities?

Google is my new God

Google HaloI always knew the Christians had it wrong, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. 9 Proofs of the REAL God:

  1. Google is the closest thing to an Omniscient (all-knowing) entity in existence, which can be scientifically verified.
  2. Google is everywhere at once (Omnipresent).
  3. Google answers prayers.
  4. Google is potentially immortal.
  5. Google is infinite.
  6. Google remembers all.
  7. Google can “do no evil” (Omnibenevolent).
  8. According to Google trends, the term “Google” is searched for more than the terms “God”, “Jesus”, “Allah”, “Buddha”, “Christianity”, “Islam”, “Buddhism” and “Judaism” combined.
  9. Evidence of Google’s existence is abundant.

Although, now I’m confused – is Google God, is is it the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Oh noodley/googley one, please give me a sign, so that I may know who to worship!

Flat Earth Theory

Flat EarthI found a podcast recently by The Infidel Guy, where he discusses a group I couldn’t believe actually existed today – The Flat Earth Society.

On this podcast, he discusses the beliefs of the Flat Earth Society who still believe that the earth is actually flat. A round disk, centred at the north pole, with a 150ft ice wall which keeps all the water in. How is it, then, that us “Round Earthers” are utterly convinced that the earth is actually round? Well, it’s a world-wide government conspriacy. One of the most disturbing things about this, is these views are apparently not motivated by religious dogma, but rather… just plain stupidity!

Have a read of their FAQ to fully understand just how nuts these views are. While it appears that the actual number of members who believe what they preach is small, I’m still hoping it’s just a big joke, but even Pastafarianists don’t take things that far.
