[...] The cognitive leap that led to our augmented mind - the ability to read another person’s mind - is perhaps the same cognitive leap that led us to anthropomorphise nature, i.e. it may have led us to formulate our ideas of God(s) and possibly Religion(s). Whilst a our modern scientific understanding could be used to disprove the existence of anthropomorphic Gods, it may be more important that we deepen a sense of ethical-spirituality or well-living in order to reintegrate our living habits into a harmonious relationship with our ecology.
I liked Sam Harris's comments on this topic from the AAI Conference in 2007. I agree that 'atheist' isn't the word we should be promoting, although it is one descriptor we can be comfortable with. Why can't we all just be... Reasonable? When people ask me what I "am", I just say I'm Reasonable. If they press me further, I usually smile and say I'm a Fundamentalist, Evangelical Agnostic. Great blog you've got here. I'd love to get added to your blogroll (and of course I'd do the same). Check out mine at www.createcognitivedissonance.wordpress.com!

For Dawkins and Randi and the rest of the so-called "critical thinkers"...

The *MODEL* of mental health:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBEbfiaZTfc

"Look at the ANGLE OF THE KEY....see that, see that...."

what a fucking idiot this Randi is.....a REAL CRITICAL THINKER.....

Visit:

http://www.centerforinquiry.net/forums/viewthread/3283/P0/

to see how we stopped James Randi's fraudulent MILLION DOLLAR PARANORMAL challenge.....

watch carefully the consequences of Randi's *idea*…..

For over 40 years James Randi Zwigert (is this even a REAL NAME?) has had total control over who and how the testing was conducted, yet despite all this he has terminated the challenge.

The ONLY REASON why the challenge was stopped is because he lost and refused to pay.

PS: Love the IRONY of the BULLSHI*T sign over Randi's ugly little head

Well, i guess there needs to be at least one theist comment.
I actually think discussions like this are important. Actually as a Christian, I believe that God welcomes these sort of discussions as long as we all keep an open mind. Therefore I must keep an open mind to. I enjoyed reading these comments, and although I haven't 'converted' to atheism, or agnosticism, there is certainly much to think about in the above. So thanks everybody.
Questions welcomed!

Yes, atheist does describe the lack of something, so it describes a negative. Some groups are trying to promote th use of the term "Brights".

But I disagree over your suggestion that we even need a label. I want to propagate the notion that you can be a moral person and also not believe in god. In order to do that, I have to use the term that people understand. That term is atheist.

But I agree that we should not need labels, and that the term atheist is a negative descriptor. But I use it for lack or a better one, and I doubt there is another way for me to meet my desire to propagate my goal, as described above.
