About
The Site
Welcome to 20 gram Soul. Here we discuss issues relating to religion, science and spirituality through links, reviews, general ramblings and (with any luck) some intelligent discussion.
Just to explain some of the sections of the site:
- The blog (RSS)- All my regular posts, links, book reviews, etc., appear on the front page as they get posted. You can also subscribe to these posts via RSS.
- Sunday Skeptic (RSS)- With my blog posts, I try to make a point of writing one major post each week (generally on Sunday, just for irony) on the blog. If you’re just interested in these Sunday posts, you can check them out here.
- Links (RSS)- As I find interesting links, I post them to delicious, and these also get posted to my blog regularly
- Library – I also have a booklist on the site, where I list books I’m currently reading, have read, or plan to read. I will sometimes write short reviews there (some longer reviews also make it as blog posts), and I rate most of these books as I read them.
The Name
The name “20 gram Soul” refers to the experiments of Duncan MacDougal in 1907, where he “weighed the soul” by measuring the weight of people just before and after they died. His results determined the soul weighs approximately 21 grams. Since I’m still on a journey to further my own spiritual views, my soul is a little bit lacking, and by my powers of “guesstimation“, what I lack weighs exactly 1 gram.
The Author
I plan to write something about myself more relevant to this site, but for now, if you want to know more about me, visit my personal blog. Or, you might be interested in my post “Eight Things About Me”.
Disclaimer
Everything I write here (unless I clearly state otherwise) is my own work, and my own thoughts. Essays may have been previously submitted for university assessment, but they absolutely do not reflect the views of the university, or anyone else (past or present) who attends or works at the university.
